DCE Solar's Eco-Top HD Racking Anchors Virginia's Largest School Solar Array


Stafford County, VA: School boards do not typically make headlines for their roofs. North Stafford High School managed it anyway, and the rooftop, doing the heavy lifting, runs on DCE Solar's Eco-Top HD racking system.


Developed by Madison Energy Infrastructure (MEI), the 1.8 MW rooftop array at North Stafford is now the largest school solar installation in Virginia. It carries 3,300 VSUN solar panels, paired with SolarEdge inverters and mounted on DCE Solar's Eco-Top HD racking, and it is projected to save Stafford County Public Schools an estimated $2.8 million in electric bills over the next 25 years.

"The installation of this rooftop solar array not only reduces our environmental footprint, but also serves as a powerful educational tool for our students," said Chris R. Fulmer, Acting Superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools. "Through this project, students are learning the real-world benefits of renewable energy and how it contributes to a sustainable future."


The results have traveled. MEI reports inquiries from other school districts since North Stafford went live, and the project stands as MEI's 150th solar school installation nationwide, part of a broader wave: solar capacity at K-12 schools in the U.S. has tripled since 2015, according to nonprofit Generation180, with more than six million students now attending a solar-powered school.
